    304 efi t700

Just purchased this VR 304 EFI and T700 combo tonight. Kind of bought it on a whim and not totally sure what i will do with it. It seemed like a good bargain so had a crack.

So I've been researching some stuff on this engine and gearbox. I've come up with its a series II VR engine with relieved block for stroking and the internet seems split between hating and loving the TH700. Should the engine be stroked? 355, 383? Is the box good for performance? I might chuck it in the 1 tonner.

Anyone got any thoughts or experiences? Cheers

great motor but if you're going to start tipping money into it you may as well go LS1. VR VS 5L are cheap for a reason... they aint much chop by today's standards

Here's an article from the states swapping out a T-400 to a T-700R take a look at the HP figures that the box
can hold in the different stages...

Thanks Vombil, Panoz, advice is well received. Digging deeper, I just worked out I've got a 4L60E version of the TH700 so things got a bit more complex. I'm leaning towards a 304 basic rebuild and transmission overhaul so it can slip it all into the 1 tonner as a daily driver. The reliability and fuel economy is very appealing and to be honest, i cant see the 1 tonner getting much benefit from a massively souped up drive train. Probably just spin wheels worse than is does now with the 308.

I will do one more check to make sure the engine hasn't already been stroked (unlikely) but a basic rebuild looks worthy. Worst case, I could strip it all and sell parts on eBay...
