G'day Absinth, do you have an order form, parts book page or spec sheet I can get a copy of to verify the change over date from N66 to N67 wheels. I am wanting to know as much as I can about my Sandman and I love to learn and gather knowledge especially this sort of information on model changes and factory options.
Mine is a 3/79 HZ XX7 van which had N66 Rally wheels fitted on it when I bought it a few years back. Tucked away up under it is what I believe to be its original N67 alloy spare. Whenever I tell people I think it was the original wheel off the van they tell me I'm full of sh*t as Sandmans never came from factory with the SLE wheels on them.
Would appreciate any help verifying this.
thanks heaps Tony

79 HZ Sandman XX7 Van Flamenco Red - out 'n' about cruzin'
Tony, they are not SL/E rims as such, they are really GTS rims. Fitted to GTS and Sandman from 9/78. They were also later used on SL/E Statesman from around 5/79 and also optional on WB. All Sandmans from late 9/78 onwards had N67 rims.
G'day Byron, you're right mate, I guess I refer to them as SL/E wheels as thats what I mostly remember them on. But as you say they were really a GTS wheel first then used later on the SL/E. Is there any documentation, brochures or pictures you know of showing a late hZ Sandman fitted with the N67 wheel. All the brochures I have only show the Rally type wheel.
thanks again Tony

Thanks for the pics Absinth I really appreciate your help with this. I thought I had a picture of a WB van with them fitted somewhere but cant seem to put my finger on it right now.
I'm a little confused now on the change over date as both 9/78 and Dec 78 have been mentioned in this thread for Sandman fitment.:Chin:
Was there any reason you know of why GMH changed away from the rally to the N67 for Sandman or was it just something they did. I don't think the N67 is a particulaly good lookin wheel and they were a bugger to clean.
My wife has a set similar on her UC SL/E back in the day. I ended up painting them black and polising all the raised spokes which was a b*stard of a job but jeez it made them look better and easier to keep clean.
thanks again for your help, cheers Tony

79 HZ Sandman XX7 Van Flamenco Red - out 'n' about cruzin'
Well Sndmn, our original van was dated 79 also, (we also recently realized it was also XX7 as I kept an old rego which had the number on it which said Brisbane built) and it too came with the mags on it pictured in the thread now and then, and it had a N66 spare, it is actually still out at Rodney's parents farm somewhere, as when we were selling the van, the guy was short some money so we took the spare, Jack, and stereo, which was fitted behind the console, out of the van, am unsure of what he was going to do if he got a flat tyre :shifty: as he wrote it off within months of owning it, I guess it didn't matter....

I can even tell you the exact date that the change happened as it is on the ordering procedure. There will be a copy of this info in my book when it is done. What you'll probably find is that the change didn't happen on the same date at all plants. The date is September was the say the revision made it into the ordering procedure so that dealers and buyers knew of the specification change. There would have been some cars half done waiting for something so it is possible they weren't finished until early October.
Tony, go by what Byron says as he has the ordering procedures. The 12-78 date I used was because at the time I didn't know a change over date and Robbos ute above was the earliest confirmed date of a Sandman delivered from factory with N67 rims.
As for why Holden changed to N67 rims... who knows.... why did they drop the GTS guards on HX and HZ???
