    Time to Jesus this thread!

    I'm always on Google looking at how people can find mySandman.com.au and came across these pearls of wisdom!

    How can I tell if a Holden SANDMAN Panelvan is the real thing?

    The most obvious thing to look at is the colour. TheSandman only came in two colour schemes, the first was Fawn with Royal Purple letters, and the second was Royal Purple with Fawn letters.
    Upon failing this, the Sandman was only ever an option on the HQ panelvan. They essentially had the HQ GTS slotted guards, bucket seats and instrument dash and as such are actually included within the VIN numbers for the GTS.

    Breakdown of the VIN: (HQ only - never offered in any other model)
    Eg: VIN - 80170QH500025.
    80270 Q H5 00025

    Model number: 6cyl Panelvan80270 - 8cyl Panelvan80180
    H5 - H9 = Sydney only

    The Sandman was only produced at the Sydney plant. Any VIN which is H1-H4 was built in Brisbane and therefore not a genuine Sandman
    If the panelvan in question doesn't have any of these, then more than likely it's not a genuine Sandman.

    and this one;

    "Holden, in 1974 introduced the Sandman, a version of the panel van designed to incorporate many of the features of the Monaro, such as sports instrumentation, sports steering wheel and bucket seats, and "rally" road wheels with a choice of two six cylinder and two V8 engines. Other available options included automatic transmission, power steering, and air-conditioning. Sandmans were visually identified by stick-on vinyl decals on the exterior. Although manufactured in conjunction with the utility models, the panel van is externally similar to a station wagon, save for the lack of side windows and side rear doors and seats, and a noticeably higher roofline. It gained notoriety during the latter half of the 1970s as a mobile venue for sexual intercourse. Vans earned nicknames as shaggin' wagons and sinbins."

    So it's a panel-van Monaro essentially. If it has all the Monaro trinkets, and the Sandman decals, chances are it's either a real-deal Sandman, or someone's just converted a Monaro into a panel van.

    I almost purchased that from Steve Wilson in the mid '80's. Running gear ended up in Pat Fay's Hearse. As you may know Pat died last year. The Humpy is still with Steve's brother Rohan in the Blue Mountains.

    I'd hate to see this garbage to start springing up about Sandmans. There is a bit out there though, like the ultra rare bench seat Sandman. And the WB Sandman.
    I recently picked up a WB Series service manual supplement which showed you could option a WB as a Sandman.
    Never seen one in person though.
