I wouldn't buy any HQ-WB that didn't have tags! They are one of the most important things in my opinion. 6 cylinder WB ute or XX7 HZ, the tags are the cars value (when all matching). Insurance really needs to cover them, but wouldn't the car then be an insurance write off if they went missing?
funny you say that. a prospective claim for total loss hadn't even entered my mind but the rep (before even hearing from an assessor) made a staunch point of saying 'there's no way we would write the vehicle off if the tags were stolen'

With the exception of Shannons, I doubt too many insurance companies give a flying hoot about the collectible market, hence why it's an issue not on the radar. Given that they avoid payouts in any way possible it's unlikely they'll volunteer any extra service.
Yeah, it sucks for those guys with cars where the tags mean a lot. I guess the best insurance would be to remove them and store them somewhere safe.

Definitely worth posing this question to a Shannons rep. Many years ago I was looking at a GT HO & asked the bloke about the tags & he said they were in a safe & he would not keep them with the car, as he had heard some storys of tags going missing at mechanics or panel beaters

An interesting one. Tags could be worth 20 - 40 k difference on a sale price, couldn't see an insurance company stumping up for this amount just for stolen tags, there would probably be some fine print to enable them the weasel their way out. you could probably note a special condition on your policy, but imagine the extra premium they would ask !
no official word yet but I spoke to another bloke at shannons who mentioned the notes on the system are suggesting a value drop of 40% if tags are stolen! We may be getting somewhere. Should hear from them Monday
