It will be more than 1 1/2" as you will not want the slip yoke all the way in.
You'll need to take a measurement from the gearbox oil seal to the flat face of the diff yoke.
They will then know how much should the tail shaft needs to be shortened.

    Great work.

Just a minor thing. Im not sure where you got your crossmember made up but i had a mate make one up for me for my commodore when i put the 304 in. I had to get it engineered and I had to get the welders ID and rego numbers etc to say hes a ticketed welder and get him to sign off on it or the engineer was gunna make me get an aftermarket one. Not sure what theyre like in your state but in Vic they seem to be a bit full on about home welded parts like that, so make sure its sturdy.

thanks innuendo! that helps as where to measure it from and too! yeah i was not sure if slip yoke should be all way in, just a rough estimate looking at it.
I think my cross member is an aftermarket one that was bought from somewhere. came with my turbo 350 when i put that in. just somewhere along the lines it lost the bits on the side to bolt it in, so it got welded into mine, (was not my idea, i was going to get it fixed like i have now, it got put in when while i was elseware for a day ) I do think things are more lenient here in SA, but my dad is a welder by trade anyways so when it comes to engineering everything I do not think will be too much of an issue. hopefully!

If nothing has changed in the last few years, You used to be able to put 5.7's into HQ's with no inspections because the 5'7 is still 350ci. as long as you don't increase the size above what came in a HQ it was just a over the counter engine number change. was the same for my EFI 5.0 in to the HJ.

well been progressing slowly :( between weather being too hot or wet, or my own physical problems slowing me down ive nto progressed much. hoping to have it plumbed up before year is out. fingers and toes crossed! made a mock up rough centre console with cardboard. it will have a high/long arm rest to aid my driving so i can rest my arm as i go. which hopefully means ill manage further drives! ive not put it in the pano yet to see where need to cut/add bits. it iwll have a discreet lid in the wide area up the front where the ecu will be housed. have not decided what i will make the actual console out of yet haha.
