    That would have been some trip, Cooktown used to be 4wd territory.

    Yeah, its blacktop all the way to Cooktown now, with graded roads available to Weipa and right to Bamaga at the tip.

    Still 4wd from Cape Tribulation to Cooktown via Bloomfield, I had to go the long way around through Lakeland but it was a nice drive over ranges and through some marvellous country. I got to cross the very tip of the great dividing range, which was cool.
