    Photo's of the Ute

    G'day SandFolk,

A few photo's of my '77 ute, if they upload or whatever correctly. Was apparently a daily driver builder's ute in Canberra until 4 or 5 years ago, I bought it 2 years ago from the bloke who restored it. Not cheap, but just what I wanted and knew were near impossible to find in that condition.
4.2L, runs unleaded, just over 400,000 k's, like a new car. A bit dusty in the photo's, been in the shed for a while between drives. Had to take a few pics for insurance, thought I'd throw thom up here with the other good old Sandmans. They seem to be gathering a bit of momentum, or is that just me...?

Hi Paddy, that is one beautiful HZ you have and XX7 plated to boot. I'll bet it was worth every penny you forked out for it. I assume your name is a nickname and you are Irish or Irish decent, my old man was Irish and when he arrived in Perth at the age of 18 went working on a cattle station, the other stockmen give him the choice of Mick or Paddy as his nickname.... he chose the latter.

If you wouldn't mind could you take a close up picture of the Vehicle Identification Certificate and email it to me, I am trying to get as many as I can for research and would really appreciate it.

    Cheers, Sean

    Sean,
I'll scan the ID Cert when I get back to work and send it on. Name is actually Patrick, But I've been Paddy McCoy for as long as I can remember, and have a good mate Mick, so we're an irish joke no doubt. I met an Irish "Mick" at work recently who is a "Paddy" by nickname.
Yes It is a nice ute, and I't be mine for a long time to come, that's the plan anyway. My 10 yr old son thinks it's going to be his first car, but he's likely to get a 6 cyl replica instead i think. Been looking for the right ute that'e close to it without much work to be done.

    Cheers Mate,

    Paddy.

Interesting that the Vehicle Id cert does not state Sandman

    Is this normal, Any ideas?

Were they just typed up by the dealer though? They may have been done differently from dealer to dealer? Its a bit hard to see but they appear to have the number plate back to front for a NSW plate so there could be mistakes down to whoever typed it up. They put the wrong engine number on the rego papers for a hilux we bought new once.

All the ID certificates I have seen for Sandmans had Sandman written on them but this is the first Brisbane built and delivered Sandman cert. I have seen. Keep in mind that Brisbane built Sandmans are stamped XX7 and XU3 which identifies it as a Sandman, perhaps Qld dealers knew this so didn't see the need to write it on the V.I.C......
