    What is this ?

I was back fishin near Mungindi on the weekend and where we go was a sheep station in the 1800's. I have collected lots of relics over the years but this one has me flummoxed. Any old bushies on here with any idea ?

My guess would be a sprinkler head, the screw part taps into a main steel line?

That is a tap that went in a timber wine or beer barrel the spindle is missing and the outlet looks to be sealed with a lead plug that looks to be stamped

I did some more research after I read your post and you are spot on Beachy. Only thing is, it's not a lead seal where the fluid would come out. It's a 44 Winchester cartridge that has now been well and truly fused in after lying on the ground for 120 years. Why it is in there at all is anyone's guess. Anyway well done, thanks.

The Winchester cartridge may have been used as a substitute for a missing part or as part of the item originally. 100 years ago my Grandfather wrote his diary in Gallipoli. He hid his pencil in a rifle cartridge so he wouldn't lose it.BULLET PENCIL BEAKDOWN.JPG
