Thread: Hz Sandman ???

Mine is a 76, just after pollution gear was brought in.

One owner with 153,000k's on the clock when I got it. I don't think the pig farmer from northern N.S.W who owned it previously was really worried about removing parts and covering up the holes but it has got me curious now, so I'll remove the side windscreen stainless and see what is under re these holes etc. Thanks for the pics.

I might learn something. I'll let you know what I find.

HJ panelvan wasn't available in the Kingswood variant.....

The pollution gear was introduced in July 76 at the start of the HX model...

You sure you have a HJ???? Sounds like a HX to me.

I used to call it a Belmont. Byron corrected me by saying it is actually a Kingswood as there were no Belmonts in HJ.

Compliance plate states 1/76 HJ Panel Van.

So definitely HJ with pollution gear.

Just pulled the stainless strip off. There are 5 holes all occupied by a screw securing the side stainless trim.

That bottom hole has a screw securing the bottom of the side and the end of the bottom windscreen stainless trim.

No patchwork or plugging up of any holes I can see.

I am wondering if those angle gutter things were deleted on some cars as my van was of very very basic stock.

173 with column shift, bench seat, rubber mat. The taxi dash (which I still have and not for sale sorry), has no radio hole or cigarette lighter hole.

Can you take a pic of the stainless trim and how it's fitted, something is not right as the windscreen stainless trim is held on by clips not screws except for one at the bottom.

Byron would have told you it was a Holden not a Kingswood. The base model Belmont name ended with HQ and was then on just called a Holden for all base models...

The five holes that hold the stainless on. Bottom hole the screw goes in the last hole on the side stainless and the end on the stainless that runs across the bottom of the windscreen.

That is true of commercials Ute/Van but Belmont sedan and wagons continued in HJ.
Maysik has a "Holden Panel Van"

Your photos appear to show holes for the standard "L" shaped gutter. Across the top and down the windscreen edge.

I think you're both right. 76 HJ had some provisional pollution gear fitted (like the carbon canister/vapour return) but as I understand it still not the full pollution measures brought in fully with HX
