    looking for an injected 5L

howdy folks those who r also on MV may have already seen this but im going to b in the market finally for an injected 5L to put in my panelvan. looking for one at a good price, thats either in SA or possibly victoria as can pick it up. preferably one that doesnt need to much TLC. and anythign else i may need with it (loom, computer, etc) doesnt need to have trans with it, as ive got a turbo 350 which i am retaining that came with my current carby 308. but if it does have a trans no biggie hehe. might find a better trans and then sell the turbo 350. can also do a swap plus cash ur way with my 308 that is a very ncie engine just needs a rebuild. lookingto purchase in the next month, soon as my funds come back. if its a whle VN v8 that could work too, will jsut wreck the rest as parts. i think i need a VN computer to make it all play nice together? but im not entirely sure LOL.
    cheers guys

vn or vp is what you need...just buy a whole car its simpler and you are gaurenteed of getting all the parts you need..and then selling off what you dont need..
it just took me 2 years to find a low k..180,000.. one owner vp ss smacked up the bum at auctions and i paid $2500 delivered because it was so good mechanically etc..plus i get money back from selling stuff i dont need..sold the front bar with its driving lights at $450 for example..
if you do buy a second hand 5ltr injected watch out for crank float as it will become expensive to rebuild and they are bad for wearing in the crank bearings..

As Greg says, buy a whole VN-VP. Don't discount VR or VS either if it is a manual as you can use it easily too, just don't use VSIII ute with sequential engine. The only little bit more work in using the VR-VS manual engine is you have to get the memcal program modded to remove the BCM (security) input, but in reality you have to do this anyway with a VN-VP engine unless you are using the same diff ratio and tyre size as the donor car. The VR-VS manual engine will bolt straight up to your TH350 and you can use the wiring etc. In some ways the VR-VS is easier as the 10-pulse/rev signal from the speed sensor goes straight to the ECU whereas with VN-VP you have to get a different speed sensor or stuff around with a pulse converter as in these the speedo converts the 10 pulse signal into a 2 pulse one. Plus you'll get good $ back for the 5spd T5 manual conversion out of the car.
If you want to run a 4spd auto (easy fit to HQ-WB) you can really use any of the injected 304 or 350 out of VN to VSIII Commodore, Holden, Statesman or HSV. Basically VN have TH700R4, VP have 4L60, VR on have 4L60E. Only catch is the ECU for the 4L60E is bigger than the VN-VP or VR-VS manual and is harder to hide under the HQ-WB dash.

Excellent info from Byron there. Trust the man as he certainly knows his stuff. Im in the middle of doing this type of thing in my VH commodore. Its a pretty big job but definitely worth it.

As well as ebay etc, some other good forums to find these motors are justcommodores.com.au and streetcommodores.com.au And also dont underestimate your local gumtree.com.au sites. Cheers.

You could always put efi heads & manifold onto a red 253/308 block.
This way you keep with the emissions of a H series and no Catalytic converter.
