    Post HX Sandman restoration

    Hi all

The rear beaver panel is being replaced

The repairer has asked if I could confirm that:

    1. Does the rear wiring lights cable run thru and in the beaver panel? (he did not originally remove the beaver panel)
    2. If the wiring loom runs thru the panel - is it clipped in some way, so as when he welds the new panel on, he will not burn the wiring? (he can temp secure the wiring - he's concern other than affecting the wiring with heat - is also that if the loom ever needs replacing - how can it be removed if he secures?)

    Thank you

    Wazza

There are no clips behind the beaver panel...but yes the wiring for the rear lights and licence plate light runs in between the panels. More than likely welding will burn the wires. Its a major pain feeding the wires through again.....best to remove it. Otherwise, when the beaver panel is off, use a heat shield around the wires and secure it out of the way......but any future wiring issues may result in you not being able to get to them.

Yeah wires are loose in there. Best to get him to weld up with dummy wire to pull actual ones through later.

Working a way to remove and reinstall the wires behind the beaver plate has been discussed on this forum before from memory. I think, as you suggest you need to leave a feed string (or rope), perhaps thin rope may work best if removing the original loom. Otherwise it can become a pretty real problem, very annoying and seem close to impossible. I dunno about using another wire. Soft thin rope a bit thicker than string perhaps. And perhaps two, with one tied off at each end as a spare just in case. (So you drag two lengths of string through with the loom as you remove it, and tie both in place at both ends, and use only one to reinstall, so if it stuffs up you have a second chance. I'm pretty sure there is a previous thread on this.
