Mine too Jason. Have wanted an Orchid HQ van since I started playing with these things many years ago - it's very cool to see one listed for sale, kinda gives me hope that I still may stumble upon one one day.

In saying that, this happened to me recently - Over Christmas I drove down to Gympie to pick a tonner up for a mate and tow it home. I had not seen the ute but was hell excited about a road trip with a good mate. Long story short - the tonner had a genuine HQ GTS front on it. My mate hated it from the moment he saw it and before we got out of Gympie town limits I'd bought it for a carton. It was rust free, straight as with Prem beak. Anyway, upon inspection once I got it home and dismantled we found it to have remnants of factory Orchid paint up under the insides of the rear of the guards and along its inner edges!!!!!!

Probably sounds dumb to many but for me it was a pretty cool find. They seemed to have the factory holes for the GTS and Munro badges so not from this van, but just thought I would share anyway.

    Cheers

Should it have fins in the back or it is it close enough to HJ?

Agree with you there Wombat, 01/74 build should still have the vents on the side panels. Didn't think they changed until around April/May 74.

Says tags have never been removed yet no pictures of tags..... think I'd want to check it out in person before bidding as nothing on that van is original except maybe the dash but probably not.

I'd say it was stripped years ago for parts, someone has found the shell, found out it was a Sandman and collected all those parts to assemble it back together and like a lot of projects ran out of time or money. Quite a bit of rust in it in places.

Still be a beauty when restored.

It states it was built and June '74 sold July '74 so no vents is 100% correct.

Yep you're right. I was looking in the item specifics box at the top where date of manufacture is 1/74.

Should it not have a 220 speedo?

I think that is GTS only from what I can figure. Mine has a 200kph and most of the others I've seen that I rate also have the same.
It's up for debate, but I can't see why a Ute or Panel Van in 1974 would get a 220kph speedo. I certainly wouldn't discount something from being a Sandman based on the speedo.
Worth checking a 1974 HQ Parts book for info.
