You'll probably do best doing a swap.

With other projects, such as the HQ-WB doors, there is no potential of HZ fenders for the time, if any.
Even the doors will take a while as the tooling has been ordered, but not reached a start yet.
Then comes the testing, and any corrections, followed by production and shipping. At least it shows that parts are still under consideration and continually added to the product range.

Knowing this assists in valuing parts you may want to sell or buy and what you want to retain. When considering any restoration it is invaluable knowing what is available and approximate costs before starting. You would not want to be half way through and find you cannot get a suitable part, either genuine or reproduction.

Thats a shame your not making the guards trying to find good rust free guards and doors is almost impossible for HJ to WB

Bugger Gene, I jut cut out the wheel arches from two front guards to fix the rears. They weren't perfect. I was going to repair them when I finished the van and sell them, but when I was at Rare Spares last the bloke behind the counter told me they were in the process of doing new guards for LX LH Torana and HJ-HZ and they would be around eight months away. So I thought my guards would go down in value and didn't mind sacrificing them. Bugger thanks for the heads up Greg, unfortunately four days to late. The salesman must have gotten mixed up with the doors. Bugger number 2 I still have two front doors in stock, looks like I have missed out twice.

Genuine guards will never go down in value, GTS or not.

A good set of GTS guards, straight and rust free would have to get $1500 these days. Might have to wait for the right buyer but you’ll get it.

They are not that far apart in cost these days and just as difficult to find.
Of course you can add cash either way in the negotiation. My point is you will have difficulty finding mint standard guards and if you could do a swap the guards come to you.
Could save a lot of time looking.

Firstly there are many projects that Rare Spares have under consideration, and often it is over 100 at any one time. Some may proceed and some are dropped or replaced with other items. It all revolves around getting good samples, finding a suitable supplier and agreeing to a tooling and item cost. It is not unusual for those outside of Head Office to not be aware of this listing as it is confidential until it reaches sample approval stage. This removes people being disappointed if a project doesn't continue for some reason.
As to the 8 months due this is possibly a "Chinese Whisper" or urban myth as it can take a couple of years for projects to go from start to finish.

For the HJ Fenders many people forget that years ago there were thousands produced and sold that were Made in Taiwan before the factory closed and the tooling totally destroyed. They also made the Quarter Panels, Ute Tailgates and Wagon tailgates.
I know of the destruction as I visited the factory during its production days and a couple of years ago met the original owners over dinner. They confirmed the tooling loss. Rare Spares alone imported many container loads of these and they all sold very quickly with NO returns or issues.

So this means that there are many cars around today that may have original GMH fenders fitted or think they are genuine. It is the same as the park lamp assemblies. Does this make them less original and how can you tell the difference today. After paint, dirt and years how do you know that your fenders are the ones fitted during assembly.
