Do you know his reason for selling after 40+ years?
Does he need the cash or is he chasing attention/teasing
THanks everyone. You've all pretty much got it nailed i reckon. it's not 40k and it's not 20k so the seller obviously knows what it's 'worth'. There was a farm find 6cyl windowless Q over here about 9 months ago that did not go out to the open market. some guy snapped it up and on-sold it to a bloke in the east for over 20k. There's sales evidence around but seems to all be off-market transactions that are word of mouth.

If you ring Shannon's with all the details, as if you are going to insure it, you might get an estimate of it's worth. After all if you do buy it then insurance would follow. You can also get a price for daily driver or their policy where it is off road and undergoing restoration/ work. At least it will give you some indication of value for a phone call.
i know it doesn't work that way mate. I have a pretty rare kingswood ute and it was heavily under insured (purchase price). they sent me a policy renewal at the under insured amount. I told them i'd tidied it up mechanically but no major work ie rebuilding engine. They agreed to insure it at 4x what it was. Insured value and market value... chalk n cheese.

As I said it is only an estimate that you are after at first. It is like a lot of things where you cannot make a definite price as there are always going to be variants to be considered. However you need to start somewhere. I queried my insurance when it arrived and had the market value increased after advising of low kilometres.
I am glad you see the positive side of it. maybe some of those calls they can turn into sales and will love me even more than you do. Shannon's welcome any enquiry and continually try to assist restorers. You only have to look at their presence at most motoring events and their display truck.
