253 correct manifold and carby

hi guys just after some help with me hj sandman..

when i got it ,it had a 4 barrel manifold and a rochy on it but not sure if it should have a 2 barrel from factory. Ive seen a few with 4 barrels at car shows but been told should be the two barrel stromberg? anyone know for sure ?? thanks guys

Yes, only 2 barrel from the factory. No 4 barrel option. But obviously a common upgrade by owners since

All 253 red motors were 2 barrels only 253 blue motors had 4 barrels

There is no way in the world I would go back to a two barrel on a 253. It’s a perfectly acceptable upgrade and the loss in performance would not be worth it. Same goes for upgrading to a electronic ignition.
You might as well pull a plug lead off

Can anyone tell me what casting number on a 12/77 hz 253 m20 manual panelvan would be? I have a few 2barrel manifolds here with 9945690 88 ……….and 9932888
Also manual 2 barrel carb number I’m led to believe it’s 23 3112
