Something tells me that if you do the conversation back to van, you'd miss it being a ute
And for 4500...id be sceptical in it being a quality job.

Just reading the start of the post ..
You say that the plates say the bout original motor. .
No they don't ...
Only bout if it come with a 6 or 8 cylinder. ..
Then either a 253 or 308 ...
Only a built sheet / original order sheet will have the motor number .
Yes I'm saying the tags say if it's a 6 or 253 or 308...
but not any more than that ..
you can only be guessing by the numbers that are on the motor built date /day /month engine number .
wouldn't you need the original build sheet from the dealer that the owner gets with the vehicle.
Pretty much correct except only a handful were lucky enough to find a build sheet these were sometimes left in the car somewhere, only to be found years later when pulling the interior out. The dealer gave the little delivery card with the numbers hand written on them. Unfortunately they mostly got lost with the owners books as well.
My 2 cents worth. As is it is probably only worth as much as a similar condition V8 ute (no premium sandman value), maybe less because it is a van on the plates.
But if you go to the effort (and from the pics it looks in general good nic) to convert to van it would probably be a better starting point than buying a van that needs lots of work restoring and then you have a top spec sandman van of the era in a desirable colour (IMO) that would justify the bucks spent.
Plus I prefer van anyway.
For $90 Holden Historic services may be able to confirm original engine number for you. Then there will be no doubters to your claim.
OK Thanks
I'll give the holden historic services a call and see how I go.
Eventually, I will restore it to a van.
Cheers
Adam.

Yes ok restoring it back to the way it came from the factory I get that ....but if you are going to all the trouble at least find a correct rear section ....it deserves that.
