It's just for oil fumes to be vented and recycled, then spat out the exhaust. Typically aftermarket sports air cleaners come with the multi-stepped hose adapter that is to be fitted to the air cleaner base.
Connect the hose and off you go.

That said, the original air would be retained if it was me. Keeping the Sandman original is important for resale.
At the very least keep the original air cleaner with the car.

Certainly will not getting rid of the old air cleaner.
I fact now thinking of leaving it on.
