Started an apprenticeship in 1978. Weeks pay was $35.00 mum took $15.00 for board. The Sandman took $12-15 per week for fuel ⛽ had to do 20 hours a week over time to cover car payments. This period in my life gave my a real appreciation of money and savings. Then I was stupid enough to build a 327 chev engine for the pano. Lots of fun but not much smart.

1st year apprentice was on $70 a week fuel was like 21 cents a litre didnt even blink an eye lid at burning $20 on fuel on a Saturday night cruising with the boys in my Torana and chucking bog laps around town and trying to hook up with some chicks
some of the best times of my life
1st year apprentice cleared about $45 a week, $5 would just about fill the tank, that was in gallons. When fuel changed to litres,it was 15c a litre.
