    Standard Van, Ute and One Tonner had six leaf rear springs.... XX7 and XU4 had four leaf rear springs. Shock absorbers were the same until HZ where regular and heavy duty rear are listed for 60,70 and 80.

    Just changing the tyres would do little to improve ride comfort....
    But they would handle better due to the softer tyres.

    Hey I just checked the photos of the compliance plate the guy send me and it is HZWM70 not HZWN70 , he is going to send me the skinny tag id photo tomorrow does this mean it could now possibily be a sandy instead of a K/wood

    It is NOT a Kingswood if it is M70. As detailed in our front page;
    http://mysandman.com.au/ident.html

    M = Commercial vehicle
    N = Kingswood

    Sandmans were "made" from commercial vehicles (M) but had derated load capacity due to having standard tyres and not commercial tyres.
    However this is not the only thing that makes a vehicle a Sandman, there are other factors as well, detailed in the link above.

    Yeah I had read the detailed id points but it is nice to hear it from someone else, As mentioned in first thread this van has gts dash, steering wheel, gts rims, twin headlight front, full hoodlining not sure about courtesy lights did ask about those. The trim code, paint etc, Chasis does match vin had that confirmed this evening just waiting to see skinny id tag , is their anything else you could suggest to help with id??

    Nope it looks good to be a Sandman with the updated info you have provided.

    However I would be really checking the plates by photo or go and see for yourself if you can. If the seller can get mixed up between an N and M on the phone/email... you'd be wanting to check it for yourself!

    Good luck and share the photos when you can.

    If it isn't a Kingswood then it'd be very unlikely NOT to be a Sandman. Note that normal Sandman had commercial tyres. It was only the mid HJ on XX7 that passenger tyres.

    Absinth, never seen different spec for leaf springs in any GMH documentation for reduced GVW. I have the full features listings including build sheets for both XX7 and XU3 and no difference in springs listed. Vans and utes never had 1-tonner size spings as standard. You could order tonner leafs as heavy duty option, but that was over and above standard 2155kg/2200kg GVW. Remember XU3 existed from day dot in Sandman, and ran through to the end. It was called XX7 at the start, but changed to XU3 mid HJ. It was the new package introduced mid HJ that then carried the XX7 code. The "normal" pacage didn't change mid HJ, it stayed the same. Softer springs were not fitted to the new reduced GVW Sandman.
