Tuff one but finished it will bring good $$$
Criky that’s a tough one.
For me if I had the skills I would restore and then sell.
But only you know the true costs.
Good luck with your decision.
Cheers Kiwivan
It is not about the journey,It is the style we travel in!
Big question is what is big $$? I reckon i have another $40g to spend on it, what will it be worth once done is my big question, I know I'm not going to have the storage space!
Really depends on the offer you have received now its obviously a risk putting another 40k in with no guarantee of the dollars at the end. Is the van you spoke of in your first post an asking price or confirmed sale price? I'm no expert but are there any known sales over 100k, even 80k for that matter?
Depends on how much he’s offering. Not really worth going through all the effort of finishing the restoration if you’re gonna be at about the same money wise in the end. You’ve got your ones that youve restored. Let this guy restore his. I know some people love the restoration process, but maybe you meed something different to mix it up a bit. Thought about motorbikes?
I’ve been culling too. Sort of. Figured having a whole bunch of cars that were effectively “the same” was kind of silly, when there are so many different ones i want. Sold 2 wagons, HQ Coupe, HQ sedan , HJ Statesman , HJ Tonner and WB Kingswood Ute. They were all good complete cars but needed full resto’s. People offered good money so i let them go. I’ve kept my HZ Sandman and HZ GTS, mainly cause they were the first 2 but also good solid survivor cars that I can just refresh mechanically and have a nice Patina’d cruiser.
The money from the others has gone into the next lot of stuff thats cheap at the moment and should rise. Trying to get cars that need minimal work to get on the road and cheap and easy to fix up, mostly 70’s and 80’s Japanese stuff, with the odd thing like my VT SS, first of the LS, 6 speeds.
If your hearts not in it, sell it. If someone else wants it then it seems pretty simple to me. It’s like everything else, you’ll be glad it’s gone, luckily it’s worth a bit of coin, but if you still need to sink 40K into it, it seems that there won’t be any profit in it at 80K.
I have noticed an awful lot of Sandman’s on the market at the moment with big prices on them, makes me wonder how many are actually selling though.
