Oh well, a bit disappointed, the hunt continues...
I just got the verdict back from HHS it’s not a Sandman.

    See below,

    Hi Rod,

Thank you for visiting HHS and for your enquiry.

Many Holdens have been altered and upgraded over time. This HX Holden utility you have was not a Sandman originally, but a nicely optioned example of the base commercial. The good news is that the ID plate particulars belong together as well as to the bodyshell. That is a super bonus on any old Holden today.
The HX Sandmans were not available in 6-cylinder configuration at the time your utility was built. They had been discontinued earlier in the year due to extremely low sales and only V8 vehicles were being made.

What you have is a base utility with several options including the 3300HC engine, Trimatic automatic transmission, and bucket seats at the very least.

It is also a possibility that the selling dealer arranged for Sandman decals, etc., to be applied prior to sale in order to satisfy a specific request if the car has presented as a Sandman in the past. Who would really know? If only these old Holdens could speak...

This is probably not the answer you were expecting but I hope this is of some use to you.

Please feel free to ask any questions relating to your Holden.

    Kind regards,
    Ben

I don’t know if this is entirely right....it’s a 3/77, if above is correct and the 6cyl stopped in that month as I also have a 2/77 HX Sandman 6yl with 18V Trim. If it is correct then my 2/77 could be the last one made.
    Regards
