Before you do it.
Tighten the two wheel nuts either side of it. The other two that are opposite take them off. This puts less tension on the locknut and it should come off ok.
Give the lock nut a good wack or two white holding it and trying to turn it with vicegrips. If you have room.
Or a socket with sharp edges is best and a large hammer. So use a 12 point socket. Or even better if you have a Torx (star) socket large enough.
