The green hj shell I have had white Sandman logos on it. Bit hard to see but were white.
I've got the original paperwork showing all the HJ colours (bar a few late colours) and the recommended stripes. About half of the colours had white stripes supplied. Note that no HJ stripes were FACTORY fitted though, so to be an absolute proper concours example as it left one of the plants it must be presented without stripes.
We do both the white and black ones.
BUT a BIG BUT. I have seen another style. Its just of the small logo. I have seen and have remakes of the HQ/HJ logo as a white with black outline.
hmmmm somthing else to confuse you for a little while Byron.

Not too concerned with stripes. There'll be a chapter on them, but only the facts as published in GMH documentation, option codes, what goes with which colour etc. Although the stripes are an integral part of the Sandman package, they have little historical or identifying significance as none of them were factory fitted. And i'll bet there were plenty of "stuff-ups" by the fitting dealers too, like a customer not liking the suggested stripes so the dealer swapping for another colour. Or stripes stuck on non-Sandmans.
I'm curious. If the stripes we're never factory fitted, then when where they fitted and who by? I was also under the impression that the decal was fitted prior to leaving the factory.![]()
they were fitted by the selling dealers pre delivery section generally...i worked in a few ford and holden dealerships in the later 70s and early 80s doing predelivery, detailing and spare parts..things like ford sundowners and escorts with stripes etc were the same, dealer fitted stripes..
to add to this, customers quite commonly wanted all the fruit so to speak but didnt want the attention of stripes so a lot of these types of vans did not get there stripes put on at all...

All stripes and logos on HQ and HJ were dealer fitted (this is well documented - see attached cut and paste from HQ POA, HJ is the same).
However HX and HZ are not so clear. In fact it is quite adamant on the colour/trim chart that the stripe combo required must be specified or DL7 optioned. However I have reports from people who tried to buy HX and HZ Sandmans new, that they could have a DL7 straight away or had to wait a while (like a week or two) for one with stripes. This either means that the dealers had to get the stripes fitted or thee were a lot of DL7's around (this makes no sense as a dealer could easily have got a DL7 and fitted the stripes himself?).
