does that mean you couldn't get de-rated sports tyres?

Not until the new Sandman package was introduced in 10/75. It isn't the tyres that are derated on XX7 from 10/75 onwards, it is the car that is derated by use of the tyres. Sounds the same but it is a big difference.

It is a little bit of a shame to do it to what will be one of the most collectable Sandmans (if it is one) if they ever become really valuable (being an L31 Kingswood ute Sandman). It is the sort of thing lesser spec cars should be used for (6cyl and 253 examples), but it is your car and it will appeal to a different market and being a Sandman won't hurt its value.
I'd do it too, but I wouldn't use a manual so I wouldn't have to touch the floor. I'm even considering an LS1 for one of my GTS327's rather than a 427 as it is far easier and cheaper, but i'd be using a Muncie so no floor mods are required.

use a stroker crank and take it out to 427 ! Would love that ute my colour and birth month and year 308-4sp just a bonus , one day I'll get one don't care if it's a sandy but it would be cool.

Some HX are the same as HJ. Later HX-WB are different.

My HX was a 3/77 so it must have been fairly late in HX.

In my previous post I should have put the reference to the console mount differently. Should have written "later design" rather than what I wrote. Apologies to all especially Absinth who called me on it. Being a bit more focussed on HJ's I haven't paid particular attention to what may or may not be fitted or standard to other models and was not aware that they didn't just change straight away with the model change.

My mistake. I'll pull me 'ed back in now.

    Dave.
