Barbados Green. Cool colour for a HQ ute.

It's a factory V8 Kingswood too with a Black interior. Pretty much the next best thing to a Sandman. Probably worth doing up that one. Are there any Engine/trans/diff codes?

Cool thanks for that, i thought that was the original colour , there wouldn't be that many that colour i would off thought ( it has been resprayed another colour at some stage ), and it has black interior GTS dash and steering wheel, did they come out with GTS guards and front clip ? The only code is m20 thats all i can see, it does have the linkages for an column auto, on the steering column.
Cheers.
Hmmm M20 is an manual, so it must of been 3 on the tree then?

The best way will be to take the centre console out and see if there is hole in the tunnel, it is a 253 auto at present. the column definatley has the lever socket inside , and two arms with nylon holes at the end on the steering column jus toutside the firewall. The tags have the green paint on them and look original.

Nope.. 3-speed is a M15. M20 is definitly a 4-speed floor shift.

If the only code on the BODY plate is M20 it will have been a 253 4spd with 3.08:1 diff. You'd be surprised how many V8 4spd bench set HQ's were made. It appears they were a lot more common than the same combo with buckets outside of XX7. I've only ever found 7 x bucket seat HQ commercials that were not Sandmans, of those 5 x 308 and 2 x 253, 4 x M21 and 1 x M20 (the other two are too early to know what box from the ID).
I would of thought the bench seats were preferable in a ute. In a van it was acceptable then to toss the extra passengers in the back when the need arose. I remember when people ordered bench seats in the sedan just in case Mom required the 6 seater for kids pickups. They were thought of as practical.
Blokes in utes always liked the benchy when you could slide the little lady over into the middle as you traveled along.

Utes and vans. Buckets were virtually non-existant outside of HQ Sandman. You could get them, but today it appears there are bugger all left compared to bench seat vans and utes so all we can assume is they were uncommon.
I've moved the remainder of this discussion to a new thread here;
http://www.mysandman.com.au/forums/s...S-and-SS-stuff
The reason is we have answered the original question in the topic Is This a Sandman, and the thread moved onto details of other Holden models etc.
Thanks.
