    Diff Ratios

    Hello all again,
    I am considering changing from a 3.36 to a 3.08 or 2.78 in our 253 WB van.
    Any comments or suggestions?
    Thanks

    I have 308, turbo 400 and a 2.78 ratio.
My rolling diameter is 645 (245/60/15) and i do do about 2350 rpm @ 110km
It's a bit thirsty around down because of the extra hp needed to get things going.

I agree. I used to have a HJ ute with a 350, TH400 and LSD 2.78. It was heaps better as an everyday driver (and not revving it's guts out on the F3), than any i've had with 3.08 or 3.36. It was still pretty quick - from memory it did a 15.9 or something like that over the quarter on street tyres at Manilla sprints (road surface) running like a dog as it kept running out of fuel at about the 350m mark due to a crook Quadrajet!

    2.78 with a 253 / 4 speed is a no no
    too tall.
    3.08 would be perfect

Adam is correct if it's an M20, but behind a V8 and M22 box a 2.78 is fine.
