Our Local Toyota service department That Charged $1700 for a replacement clutch (Apparently it has been smoked).
It was only 12mth 30,000 km old ( apparently no warranty on clutches :Chin
I was driving in town and never been off-road with it when it failed
When I get the old Clutch back I check it, and it has more meat on it than my plate at a BBQ
    Not Burnt out at all.
Took it to a specialist in town and it turns out it was a mechanical failure .
Told Toyota Care and they don't care
Now the gearbox is making a whining noise and they advise me that GEARBOXES are not under warranty as it is a commercial vehicle ..

Toyota dealerships are trained not to give warranty you would need to make alot of noise and speck to area or state manager. I had a friend that had a big problem he eventually got satisfaction

Threaten them with Consumer affairs & Today Tonight and all that stuff if they dont want to know. I find it hard to believe that a gearbox isnt covered by warranty even if it is a commercial. I think they are doing a snow job on you.

I hate people that dont respect me enogh to tell me the truth. (my work) I am sickm of bieng lied to, people even lying under oath in Court! I said to a Magistrate the other day that my jobv is destroying my faith in humanity. She told me that it will get better, this always happens when there is a change in staff & that she sees it all the time. Itsd sucks when your trust starts to dissapear though.

Another modern dual mass flywheel clutch horror story! When I was deciding what to buy (B4 I bought the SR5) I heard heaps of bad stories about clutches in Hiluxes, BT-50, Navaras etc. I was even told by a NSW Service manager not to buy a manual if I was going to do any towing as i'd be replacing clutches and flywheels on a regular basis. Bloody stupid if you ask me, I never had any issues with V8 manual Landcruisers in the 80's. I guess with the modern 5,6 and 7speed autos there will be soon no need for a manual and they'll gradually drop them altogether in some market segments. Even the GMH salesmen were telling me that the demand for manual SS utes (new and used) has dropped considerably since the 6spd autos were introduced.

My pet hate at the moment is how Australia is being run. Normally we see a Government run along party lines, and they strategically say and do and spend with the aim of getting re-elected at the next election. This is bad enough to swallow at the best of times. Now we have the stupid situation that the House of Reps is controlled by a Green and a handful of independants, and the Senate is controlled by the Greens. So we actually have a Labor minority Government basically self destructing by doing whatever the greens/independants want to STAY in power, as soon as they say no to the minorities they'll lose power. So we see the new pre-committment spend BS idea for Pokies - at the wishes of Independant Andrew Wilkie. This is a blatant I scratch your back, you scratch mine situation. And we have the Carbon Tax, this stinks of a Greens agenda item. There are certainly others. I'm not saying any of these bits of legislation are good, bad or otherwise. Some of it may well be good like the Melbourne to Brisbane high speed rail link study, this also appears to be a Greens idea. Just the whole con job of what appears to be a Goverment held to ransom making compromises that it normally shouldn't or wouldn't. An Opposition that may or may not be a viable alternative riding an unwarranted wave of popularity and will certainly win the next election. And propped up or watered down legislation that could possibly bring the country to its knees in a time where the USA and parts of Europe are falling quickly into a hole (Wall Street dropped over 4% last night, the ASX could meltdown today). All this ill timed legislation could well see us spiral into recession, house prices drop, super funds shrink and jobs lost to Australia by them heading overseas. All of which could be avoided by making conservative and rational decisions at this period in time. However we have the few radicals that will be gone next election, so they have to make their mark while they can.
My rant anyway, and the way I see it. Might be wrong!

Prado clutch has been good so far, touch wood. Hilux clutch sqeals every time you start off with a trailer on the back. Hiluxs are rubbish in every way. I ran over a rock getting firewood the other day, it bent the center bearing mount back so it hit the tailshaft bolts. However I think it has pushed the whole cross member up as the gearbox now squeaks against the floor and it has a massive vibration over about 1500 rpm. The rock I ran over I had been going over in my old 91 hilux and didnt even know it was there. These new utes are to low to the ground. They are a pretend 4wd not worth a pinch of manure (see I can write without swearing Blocker lol).

Useless tenants who NEVER pay their rent on time.

Good for FA property managers who dont do their job but are great at taking your money

High fuel prices - especially driving over a 100 kays a day in a VS 5L... ouch!

Rain - we've had too much in Perth and my vans are getting wet and smelly

hey mate, I've worked in a few dealerships including a Toyota one. Clutches are always a touchy subject when it comes to warranty if you get you specialist to put it in writing you should get it under warranty. as for the gearbox the squeaky wheel gets the oil... It should be covered unless they can prove abuse. do a bit of homework and read the warranty section in your owners manual.

Basicly warranty works in funny ways. you take your car in for a repair. the dealer pays for the repair and then claim back the cost of the repair from Toyota. so the dealer is just a middle man for toyota itself. so Mr toyota does not want people going around saying his cars are shit! dealers are under a code of conduct by toyota to uphold the name and quality. thats why if you go to a state warranty manager they work directly for toyota not the dealer thats why they are always more helpful and more willing to satisfy the customer.
