Great van and a credit to the owner...hopefully mine will be on the road in similar sate of repair in the New Year...booked in for paint in November. I agree that buying a van like this is a lot quicker and probably a bit cheaper but is the reward as satisfying as doing the majority of the work yourself during the rebuild! My grandson lives for the weekend when he is in the shed with me restoring the Sandman. A build over time and, depending on your skills and circumstances is an easier proposition for many than a purchase of a ready made van. Remember the old bumper sticker..."Built Not Bought". But hey..if I didn't have any attachment to my van and wanted a Sandman I would definitely be interested in this van. One thing surprises me though, if you are putting this kind of an effort into a build why not use all the factory specs for the interior and such. Just my thoughts as I know personal preference is an option.

I hear what your saying and no doubt a "build" is often a labour of love, a hobby, a way to spend time with some people that you really like to or just a way to get to the shed and have some time on your own and contemplate over a sherbet or two.

On the other hand some people don't have the know how but have the funds, some people have the know how but are time poor so they are able to purchase a vehicle like the one we are talking about and still love and enjoy them just as much.

I have been in both positions, I have built and I have bought, I can't actually pick a favourite, I just enjoyed them for what they were.

I don't think there is any way better or worse, just personal preference, all that is important is that we are indulging in a pretty cool pastime and we are keeping the older vehicles alive.

Totally agree with all your saying Flamenco...These classics should be preserved...and whatever the owner wants in a car is what they should aim for!

Well said and I also have been in the same positon,And I have to say the built and brought cars(Vans wagons)I have enjoyed both.
If you do it for the right reason(ie you liked the car)Then also I cannot pick a favourite.
But spending 70k restoring a car did put a bit of stress on me(not the cost)But the overall project.I lern't a lot doing it and have a lot of respect for people who do build.
To me it is a matter of what you do with the car/van/wagon once finished.
Just enjoy what ever you do.

    Cheers Kiwivan

I would have chimed in earlier but I've been too busy fielding phone calls. I am the current owner of this beautiful van.
To HZSANFAN, thanks for the compliment but 100% of the credit must go to the person who's dream it was to bring this old girl back to showroom condition. And that was Craig aka hqhzvans. Well done again Craig.
