Holy crap!!!!!! $60 to $80 US per battery swap for a 300klm range???? Think I'll stick with my petrol guzzling Landcruiser, it's cheaper to run.

$80 is for a battery swap for the model S that has a range of 550km with a 90kw/h battery. You then have to swap back to your own battery on the way home that will be waiting for you fully charged. Thats 1100kms for $80 only if you are in a hurry. Alternatively, you can plug into the supercharger for 20 minutes and get 80% charge for free. This power is all stored in batteries charged from one of Elon Musks other companies, Solar City. Not sure about the model 3 for battery swaps.

If you own a Tesla you can drive from Melbourne to Sydney charging for free at any Tesla supercharge station. Thats all we have here in OZ but in the US you can drive from east to west for free.

There are plenty of other ways to charge. A power point at home is one but it will take 10 hours or something like that for around $27 for a 550km charge.
Thats alot of performance for minimal running costs. Its just the upfront cost that is prohibitive. I did read somewhere they will be doing a AWD version of the Model 3. Something like this maybe.

Nah, it's the wifes bike, 3km from home to the centre of the city, and it's an injected Wr250X supermotard that runs on fumes. My old 1000cc sport bikes used to go through fuel quicker than the car.

My XJR 1300 uses about the same amount of fuel as a Toyota, but then again the engine is about the same size.

Came up to the lights in the city about 5 days back, Tesla (I dunno what model) pulls up opposite on the other side of the lights hading toward us, my mate was driving, he says "Hey, look, Tesla, pretty cool", I said yep I'll try and get a pic when the lights change, cause the intersection was too big for a decent pic, the Tesla accelerated out of the lights so quick all I got was the rear 3/4 as it went passed, and I don't think it was even trying, just normal driving.

Yeah right!!!! and how long will these free re-charges last??? someone has to pay for the power usage and building of these "supergharge stations".( US$500,000 per station).. and there will need to be a lot of them if the cheapest car only has a range of 300klm. It will be the same as Banks did in the early 80's when ATM's were introduced.... free to use and no charges on your card.... and we all know how long that lasted!!!!

Yep, that's fine if you only want to travel around town or within around 250klm from home and can leave it overnight charging. As for minimal running costs.... you need to factor in battery replacement... how long will a pack last? how much is a replacement pack? A 48 volt golf buggy has 8 x 6v lead acid batteries at a cost of $250ea which last around 3 to 5 years. I am assuming these Telsa's will be running Lithium batteries or something similar? Currently a 100ah lithium car battery cost from $1500 and up per battery.. I am assuming there would be at least 20 batteries in a pack.... so at least $30,000 for a new battery pack. They may do them cheaper but even at $20,000 per pack..... that's still a lot fuel for a petrol or diesel car... now living in Parkes we are lucky to do $2500 a year in fuel per car. When we were in Brisbane and I was towing a work trailer daily with a V8 HX ute my fuel bill was still only around the $5000 per year mark.

Maybe they should have an app in the stereo for motor noises attached to the accelerator position.. Mmm maybe a V12 Ferrari!! I definitely agree sound is part of the whole driving experience
