I would have to agree with this. My HJ Sandman is in original, average condition and I paid 8,5 for it. Then again mine has the books and purchase receipts too to go along with it, so I felt 8,5 was a very reasonable price for what I was getting!

Well I have been waiting to read all these posts, and decided I would share this story....we were on our second honeymooon this time last year and did a road trip to Forster where we had our original honeymoon 26 years ago....anyway on our way home we stopped at Denman which is now pretty much a mining town, but was a wine makers town...we stayed at a caravan park, and slept in the back of the van...had tea out at the local pub, when we walked over to the van to go home, an old mate pounced on us and said" so you are the owners of this sandman, it is awesome, been waiting for you to come back and wanted to talk to you about it"...."where did you get it, is it an original, its very well restored" and the whole bit.....of course he also said "how much do you want for it", I piped up and said "$85K and that really doesn't cover all the work Rodney has put in to it"...thinking that would scare him off as we have no intention of ever selling yellow van, others could be negotiated, but not the yellow van...he looked at me and said "that doesn't phase me"...so I back peddled and said "well really its not for sale"...so after a lot of discussion and promises if we ever come across another yellow van which was well restored he would like to purchase it...so whether he was on the up and up, I don't know but he seemed to not be bothered and would pay $85K if we had have wanted to....oh and btw, he was a miner so had the money am guessing

Paid $4000 for mine in '97 Which I thought was pretty good at the time. Rough utes were fetching the same price at that time so getting a really nice van instead with the same money seemed like a bargain to me.

I paid $28k for my fully restored 77 HZ XX7 ute almost 4 years ago. Some people shake their head at the price, some say it was a bargain, based obviously on the cost to get it to that standard. Bloke I bought it from paid $2k to his builder mate a couple of years earlier, who drove it as a work ute, and had bought it new. He told me it owed him mid $30'S, he didn't do any of the restore himself.

I'm fortunate enough to be a mining electrician, and have been investing for retirement since I was an apprentice. While I like tinkering with cars (have done up a couple of old landcruisers) I'm a bit time poor at the moment with kids and my rodeo hobby that people tell me I'm too old for (so I'm getting in as much as i can while I can) so taking on a restore at this point was/is not really an option.

SO..while I did manage to knock a bit off the asking price, paying the $28K and flying from Emerald in Central Qld to Canberra to drive it home didn't really phase me. It's about what it is, who want's it, and what they are prepared to pay, like anything really.

Just need white HZ van and 4 door GTS to go with it now, but just have these boarding school fees to get past first........
