Our red van was found in a shed near Wagga, we have all the manuals, and the wallet, buy cert. and we are third owners, original number plates as well. All we did was paint her, re stripe, recover seats, and door trims, and paint the wheels. All panels are original, and running gear untouched, but checked over. IN fact under the bonnet has not been painted or touched, except the air cleaner was painted because a rat weed on it and rusted it through. We took this picture outside the place she was purchased in 1978.

I think she is in the running for best sandman, although we love Yellow van, she has been rebuilt.
I am taking her over to Forbes to the car museum, she will take pride of place in that great museum next to a HX LE Monaro. They should look good together I can get her out for runs whenever I want. I am a bit funny about this, because I feel like I am taking her to a boarding school..lol but this will free up a space for another car which has no home ATM, and she will be able to be looked at and enjoyed by all who visit the museum

It'd work. I can't remember the exact claases at Warwick Nationals but I think there were series based classes in some categories, and then there was only one class for each of Survivor and Concours. I was judging HJ for Factory Authentic. I think Nick Gontas' HK Monaro won Concours (optioned "Kingswood" Monaro), can't recall what won Survivor. There was also a memorial trophy that Nick Moran won, this could be a good idea for muralled vans for example for the Seawitch creator or another around John Bagshaw who was probably the driver for the Sandman to get off the ground.

Jennie's HZ would have been a real contender for a Survivor Sandman when she got it. I remember asking Oz to beg it to be left alone!

It's not about being the best optioned from factory. Everyone has it's place. Once you have the best in each category, you then fight it out for best overall Sandman.

If that 502 BB Van is a real Sandman it would be in contention for the modified Sandman category.
It is an exceptional Van with a lot of appeal.

Yep lots of categories and then a grand winner over all categories brings us back to "The worlds best Sandman"

Hi, I'm don't think (yet?) my HZ Sandman is the best around, however I can offer some info for you to judge:

I purchased the van on the 11th of July 1978 and I still own it!
5 Litre, 4 speed, Jasmine Yellow.
Due to paint condition (faded) I had it resprayed GM Marinello Red in 1998.
    Never seriously damaged.
    Original rego No. and plates.
Being resprayed back to Jasmine Yellow this year.
Some obvious wear and tear, however nothing that a new headlining, door trims and carpet won't fix.
