    How to paint a tailshaft (The backyard method)

    Tie some old telecom rope to tailshaft.
    Sling it over a nearby tree.
    anchor the rope to some old barbell weights.

    paint all sides of the tailshaft in one go

    Yeah, that'll work. Any way is a good way if the result is satisfactory.
