73 HQ Panno

If you just want the look of a HQ van, i'd consider buying a good one from a later series, even a WB, and rebuilding it as a HQ. HQ vans are expensive but HX to WB are cheap relatively. It'd just be a cowl swap, the new HQ front sheetmetal including front bar is close to being available repro. And this way you get to run a far better dash, retractable seat belts and in the case of WB better seats.

This is if you just want the look of a HQ. I've seriously considered doing this to a HZ or WB ute to make a HQ ute.

So you bought the Bob Jane HQ wagon that was on ebay last year? great car I did consider going after that myself and like you said it was too good to part out, rare car if i didnt have my HQ Sandy project I would have snapped it up good to hear its being restored to its former glory, do you have any pics of the resto

Its at my dads mates awaiting panel work. Not much has been done at the moment as he had to clear a few other jobs first. He's a retired guy so work will be slow, but will definitely document the resto and post picks on here. Both quarters are badly damaged and the plenum and cowl are shot so its a big job, although this guy is old school and reckons he can save the quarters.
If i can get this Hq panno for the right price i will be happy. Its a 73 so you should be able to tell if it still has the original motor? as opposed to the earlier Hq's.

I can tell for many of them except Elizabeth past June 1974, and even then we can take an educated guess if it is right or not.

Sorry to sway this thread!! I have a question on the mentioned 350 HQ Wagons, Are they some what rare? I know of one Orange colour with a LOT of rust but it is all there including original eng. The same old story the bloke is gunna do it up one day

I drive past it from time to time for work and ponder what if, so can some one put me out of my crazy thought thing or should I drop in again with a couple of bucks and try my luck??

There were 4 x HQ wagons assembled at the Dandenong assembly plant with L30 M41 driveline. These are all still known to exist (including Jason's car), at least one maybe two in NZ. I think there were a couple from Pagewood as well.

Best of luck with your HQ van, there were quite a few 308 4 speed's around in my day. All factory original pre sandman day's. I worked with a guy when I was an apprentice, who bought a new metallic blue 308 four speed belmont van, it really looked the part back then. Would look pretty good now if it survived.
