On wagons I think but not on panelvans. I have one in the shed if you are looking for one. Couldn't bring myself to drill holes in the roof.

Yes wagon is sold ( For sweet FA ). Inherited a smick EH off my Dad, and want to start on the HQ panelvan. Not enough room so something had to go. Also sold the Bob Jane wagon to a mate. So many projects so little time.

Back in the day we used to keep an eye out for any new wagons coming in to the local wreckers to see if they had a roof rack we could get off it for our vans. They were not a factory option on vans but you probably could have got one dealer fitted if you asked.

We put one on the green van because it had the holes already drilled. The chrome breaks up the green but I would not have drilled holes in a van if they weren't already there

Dealers don't fit options, they fit factory approved accessories & aftermarket accessories.

An 'option' per se, is a choice (or option) that the factory order form offers you when you order a car new.

Things like engines, transmissions, power steer, power windows, integrated a/cond are 'options'.

Things like mudflaps, weather-shields, seat covers & roof racks etc. are accessories which are (usually) dealer-fitted.

To answer your question more directly, to my knowledge the first factory fitted roof rack was standard equipment of the VB SL Commodore wagon.

AFAIK no such item was optional for any 'full-size' Holden, prior to the Commodore.
