Wow you are picky Byron...lol. You are correct, they are a dealer fitted accessory. However, when you are 23 yrs old and buying a new Sandman ute off the floor, the salesman asked, what option's if any would I like to have fitted? I only needed mudflap's,so that's why I classed them as option's.

    Cheer's.

308 auto Sandmans were available, I have a few recorded. A lot of the series 1 Overlanders were genuine HX L31 M41 Sandmans probably as this was the easiest way to get a 308 ute or van. HZ L31 M41 are also rare but were available.

Being a 1978 van it would actually be 99.9% sure to be Brisbane or Adelaide assembly.

Robbo, mudflaps were an option you could actually choose and they would be dealer fitted unless XW5 (outback equipment package) was ordered where they were factory fitted. However I don't have any info that shows you could actually option the sill moulds, so these if these are on a car from new they'd have to be a dealer fitted accessory. Not sure if the wheelarch moulds fit the same category.

Don't the sill moulds clip onto tabs that are fixed to the sill panel, would be fairly difficult to fit after the factory, whereas the wheel arch trims are only screwed on.

GMH supplied special screws for the purpose, they looked like a stud but had a phillips head. They were used for all the locations where studs were needed, eg if a new sill was fitted it wouldn't have the studs on it, same for quarters, door skins, guards etc.

Ok thanks for that, learnt something today. Where there any from the factory that look like the ones that hold the clips for the windscreen trim ?

Yes, same thing. I wouldn't use them on the lower section though, you are better off getting a beater to spot weld some easy-beat (or whatever they are called) tabs on there for you.

Now THAT is me. Caribbean Turquoise XX7 ute in L31 M41 with Buckskin trim. Is it factory air and steer? That is damn close to my ultimate Sandman, only a HJ Kingswood version would be better in my eyes!
