We have a hot tub in our backyard. Alwaays war so we can use it all year round, even in winter. It is very relaxing to hop in after work, couple of beers. Good for about 6 adults even though it is meant to be an eight seater. Cost a fortune in electricity but stuff all on chemicals. Nothing to do as we have a salt one. It can sit for two months on its own and then off with the lid and in you go.

Hhaving said all that I would rather a pool. More fun to be had. I find it relaxing to be out in the yard clening it. Only problem is the actual use you can get out of it in melbourne. Not enough.

I would recomend a salt water swim spa sized pool conected to gas. Have amate with one. Heats up in a few hours so he can still use it at nights etc.

It's not an investment question, I know the PITA they can be because of maintenance but the leisure, and having a 'base' for the kids and their mates is a massive plus.
That is what an Australian back yard pool is all about...there is nothing nicer than the sound of happy kids splashing in our pool, now its our nephews turn as our kids have left...kids in pool, us sitting around it with drinks on a hot summer evening....can't beat it....
