Definitely an upside down 3, look at the ADR no's and compare 2s and 3s

I flipped it in Photoshop. You can make a case for either. It's a ridiculous system/font chosen by Holden.

Found this pic in a book called Australian Pub Crawl. Old book with lots of photos of pubs and current at the time cars. All taken in the 60's and 70's. looks like a HJ Sandman van. Is it Persian Sand in colour?
It's outside a pub called Dora Dora Hotel in Talmalmo.

I think you guys defintely need your eyes checking. Look at the top of the 3's elsewhere, they are flat. The 2's have a curvy bottom. It is a 2, no question. And it has a 2000kg GVW, so it is a bucket seat car!

    Each to their own

I was sure it was a back the front 3 but it's defiantly a 2, it has the same curved bottom as the other 2s have.

I agree with the discussion that the stamp could be an intended 2, (but still looks at a glance like a 3 to me), who could know, but it would always be a debate for this car I think, considering its condition and money for rebuild. The upper tailgate does have what look like factory black outs, (and that could on the pics be reasonably imagined to be the original tailgate, maybe), however the dash fairly evidently hasnt seen work for a long time, but is seemingly intact yellow needle is correct etc - have to wonder why somebody would go to the effort of getting the time periods for this right if it was a replica ten years back, would have been expensive for little reason, if you were gonna allow the car to go to waste like that, so maybe a thought?

HZ8W M 70, and as Byron points out GVW at 2000, looks like peeling factory blackouts also on the doors - peeling, but looks like it was there once, hmmn, but not the windscreen trim (did HZ have black windscreen trim?)

Anyways, gotta agree with the creek running through it suggestion, it's at least been submerged in mud to the floorpan untill pretty recently, look at the tyres.

It should have black painted windscreen trims but it still was once a Sandman regardless (or at least the ID plates were off one). This is one of the good ones, ie both the ADR plate and the BODY plate confirm it as a Sandman, and the VIN Plate obviously belongs to the BODY plate. It looks like a rusty sh!tbox in the photos but at the current $1500 itis worth it as a car to wreck. I've also seen people pay over that current price for Sandman tags and a set of rails for a less desirable combo than this one is, this one has some goodies on it as well.
