We have spoken briefly about this recently Jason, and I know you have with others.

In the article supplied there is nothing mentioned about copyright sharing or licensee registration for Rares. They have made an 'agreement' with Holden to purchase their tooling, it does not mention they will be the sole licensees of Holden spare/restoration parts. That would be a very bad business decision on Holdens part to lock themselves into a single source supplier of repro parts!

There is nothing stopping you approaching Holden and getting a license to manufacture Decals, or Tail Tents, with the logos.

You know you even better suss out if the Sandman logo is registered copyright??? I bet it's not.
If you need a hand Kelly can look into the legal side of things for you, personally I think it's a bit of marketing by RS to promote this new deal.

I will answer your question Blocker as I have been in the mix of this from last year, and Jason will attest to this..

With regards to any future approvals to use any Holden Logo, and yes the Sandman logo is TM'd to GM, these approvals will need to be staffed thru RSP and not GMH. That is the official word from Holden. I can send you the email that I rec's.

    regards
    Mick

Well that is a lot more info than what the article states. Thanks for that, no need to send the emails.

So welcome to the world of cheap ass Chinese imported repro parts people!

Do you have any indication on the repro/spare parts that RS have license for? What I mean is how far back and how recent a model will they be supplying FX to VZ?

This will give you an idea of what it is about. There is a catalogue of what is "approved" already.

The shitty end of this stick is that jason, myself and others are making quality products and we have not been afforded the same opportunity as RSP to wear the "approved product" label. To me, and others that is just wrong..

oh, and yes my parts come from China, as do the majority of RSP's parts! I just have better QC..

    cheers

I understand most things come from China, I also understand you pay for QC.. so no disrespect on the smaller outfits trying to supply to the restorer.

    Interesting can of worms this...

I wonder how many people will voice their frustration with Holden when their RS parts are not up to scratch?

Mick can I order a tail tent from you please? One with a big 'Up Yours' finger on the back instead of the logo

    No disrespect taken, mate...

Can of worms, yes indeed.. I honestly believe that some of the questions that I put to Holden in Nov 2009, pretty well rattled them and it was easier to just hand it over to RSP. I thought that for awhile there was a chance that us little guys may have got a look in as well, but that was not to be.

A question that I put to Holden was "who in Holden is QA'ing the RSP products?"

lol!! with the tail tent.. They will be done with the logo as I have Holden approvals for them..

    cheers

It all sounds bad then. I know there is no market for crap reproduction parts with poor quality control.

It sounds like another case of big dollars crucifying small business.
