Do you have any pictures or further information on this Van?
So far from what has been stated in this thread there is more chance it not being a Sandman then supporting it being one.

You need a lot more proof than a tyre placard.
What other features does it have that would be pointers of it being a Sandman?

    hey Innuendo
I started this thread when I was looking at buying the car, so i only had the info that the seller was giving me, and I didnt want to ask to much in case he jacked the price.
When I got it home I went through the van.
The full head linning teeth are there, even thought a lot are missing.
There are footwell lights and door switches.
There are attachments for the console.
At some stage in its life someone didnt like the brown dash pad and glove box. So they have been sprayed black and the glove box section replaced. When I started stripping the paint back the glove box section was blue and had a statsman placard.
Has the GTS dash with the wiring appearing to be original and the fire wall grommet appears untouched.
It has twin leadlight front however this is a differnt colour to the rest of the vehicle. It has a lot of the good gts stuff missing, mirrors, wheels and steering wheel, it looks like someone picked the eye teeth out of it before I got to it.
However I believe all of these features, combined with the plates has lead me to believe that it is a sandman xu3. However as I think you have stated before, it is difficlt to say 100% without a xx7 or xu3 on the tag.

Full headlining was an optional extra... Maybe, maybe not Sandman

There are footwell lights and door switches.
Also optional... Although you say it has a different colour glovebox and Statesman tyre placard.... Sounds like a trip to the wreckers and grab the courtesy lights, switches and wiring from the Statesman while there.

Standard with bucket seats and floor shift in HZ

Not a real good sign as puts in doubt the courtesy lights.

Has the GTS dash with the wiring appearing to be original and the fire wall grommet appears untouched.
Optional or easily fitted at any time in its life.

Could be from the Statesman the glovebox is from. No GTS bits doesn't help.....

wouldn't fill me with too much confidence going off just those observations .
Is the car in original paint?
Can you find evidence of black paint around upper tailgate window, on beaver panel, along bottom sills or around door frames?
Any evidence of decals on back of doors or guards? What spare wheel winch bracket is fitted?
Are door handles, windscreen wipers or windscreen stainless mouldings painted black or evidence they once were?
Is the carpet original, possibly never removed.... Might be a production broadcast sheet under it???

not trying to be a killjoy, just trying to help you find more evidence.

my HX Sandman was totally changed, HZ instruments and fascia, Premier steering wheel, dash and door trims changed and repainted black even though it has 18V trim code. All GTS bits removed but original seats and console left. HZ SL/E front grill. Blue 253 fitted with trimatic auto.... Plates say L32 M20. Gas installation removed spare wheel which and cross member. If it hadn't been for the 18V code I would have totally overlooked it even though it had full headlining and courtesy lights.

post up some pics of exterior and interior, besides maybe helping..... We love pics of as found vans...,
4/75 HJ XX7 Sandman Panelvan ... Persian Sand currently restoring
7/76 HX Monaro 4dr 308 4sp... Absinth Yellow and rusty as hell.. SOLD
3/77 HX Sandman Panelvan ... Absinth Yellow and rusty as hell .. SOLD
